Tips for the smallest file size
- JPEG or WebP for photos — both support the quality slider and compress far better than PNG for photographic content. WebP is typically 20-30% smaller than JPEG at similar visible quality.
- PNG only for images that need transparency or sharp flat-color graphics (logos, screenshots with text). PNG is lossless, so the quality slider doesn't apply — resizing is the main way to shrink it.
- Resize before you compress if the image is larger than you'll actually display it — a 4000px-wide photo destined for a 1200px-wide thumbnail slot wastes file size no quality setting can recover.
