Free PDF Compressor

Reduce a PDF's file size for emailing, uploading, or form limits — no signup, and your file never leaves your browser. Works best on scanned documents or PDFs full of large images; a PDF that's already mostly text won't shrink much, since text isn't the thing taking up space.

How this works: each page is re-rendered as a compressed image and rebuilt into a new PDF. This shrinks file size a lot, but it means text is no longer selectable or searchable in the output — only use this when you need a smaller file, not an edited copy of the original. For page-level edits that keep real text, use thePDF editor instead.

FAQ

Why didn't my file get smaller — or why did it get bigger? If your PDF is mostly text (a contract, an ebook chapter), the text itself takes up very little space, so there's little to save — and since this tool works by turning each page into an image, a very small, mostly-text PDF can actually come out larger than the original. This tool helps with scanned pages and PDFs containing large photos, where the original images are the thing taking up space.

Will I lose the ability to select or search text? Yes — compression works by converting each page to an image, so the output has no selectable text layer. If you need to keep real text, this isn't the right tool.

Is my file uploaded anywhere? No — rendering and compression both happen in your browser tab.
